Remote Work Has Driven Many(Me) To Sedentary Lifestyles. Here Are 3 Lingering Unhealthy Effects Of 2020
We were NOT created to be sedentary creatures.
Movement and resistance are necessary for growth and good health. No one will argue that. But 2020 sent many into quarantine, without work, without social engagement, without our idols, and without movement.
I spent 8 months working from home from 2020 to 2021. I sat in the same spot Monday through Friday 9 am-5 pm. Earth to Reggie we’re in 2022, why on earth are you still talking about 2020?! Well, after taking a hard look at myself retrospectively, I’ve learned a lot about myself. 2020 brought to light some of the worst of my habits.

It’s often hard to come to grips with our poor behaviors, habits, and patterns but with a little self-awareness and transparency, we take the first step towards change.
These are my struggles. What are yours?
😮💨Pandemic Weight
Sadly, I've never had a consistent exercise routine for more than a couple of months at time. Despite this unhealthy habit, I walk alot. I'm used to being on my feet and hauling my nomadic 10-15 pound leather/canvas backpack on my daily hour and a half commute to and from work. Once the pandemic hit I didn't realize that removing my passive walking exercise (though unintentional) would drastically impact my weight. I gained nearly 40 pounds.
🔍Blurred Lines
I sat in the same spot Monday through Friday 9-5 for 8 months staring at a computer screen. Walking/public transportation commutes turned into rolling out of bed and into the "office". The lines of home/work time were blurred. Something defintely happens in the brain when your living/bed room become the place you have meetings, interact with customers. I took my lunch breaks in bed where I would take a "productive" nap. I'd also avoid sitting at my work desk during down time.
🛵Wanna Order DoorDash?
Since everyone was couped up. We were taking less trips outside, not going grocery shopping, so eating out became a thing. And boy was it costly. Did you know that on average take-out vs a homemade meal can be about 4 times as expensive?! And if you're ordering for a household it really adds up.
What are some lingering effects of 2020 that you are still battling with? What are some ways we can pivot and make a comeback on or just start over?
