Friday Tasting Menu (On a Saturday)
Issue #10-Ukraine, Reese's with Potato Chips?!, Your Phone Is Killing Your..., King Jesus & more!
I read this morning in The Action Cookbook, a fellow newsletter by Scott Hines,
“… feels strange to be writing about breakfast sandwiches, cocktails, and dogs in what’s become a deeply concerning and legitimately heartbreaking moment in world history, and I honestly don’t know what the right approach is.”
We all ought to take a moment to:
Thank God for the health, safety, and freedoms we all have, yet often take for granted in the UBA (United Bubble of America).
Take a moment to intercede and pray on behalf of the thousands and millions of innocent Ukrainian people who are going about their days in survival mode with the whirring of missiles in the air, not knowing where they will land.
Lord have mercy according to Your steadfast(unchanging/immovable) love.
And yet there is a living hope. Here’s a video I stumbled upon on Instagram of a group of Ukrainians singing a hymn in the darkest of trials.
The song they are singing translated to English:
When I fear my faith will fail
Christ will hold me fast
When the tempter would prevail
He will hold me fast I could never keep my hold
Through life's fearful path
For my love is often cold
He must hold me fast
He will hold me fast
He will hold me fast
For my Savior loves me so
He will hold me fast
Have a blessed weekend! And I’ll see you all on Monday where I’m gonna share some takeaways from 2021.
Happy Sandwiches 🥪

I recently wrote a post on using the classic goal setting S.M.A.R.T framework to craft a morning routine. I mentioned that during the month of February how I’ve been able to (not perfectly) stay away from using my phone before I have my time in prayer with God.
Herbert’s (actually John*) strategy from this video by Eric Floberg really gave me the nudge I needed to take the steps to stay away from my phone until I’ve prayed in the morning.
Eric is an incredible photographer/videographer/Youtuber/storyteller. I’d definitely recommend his other content.

This is fresh off the press and dropped just yesterday by two of my favorite artists. I love how they begin and continue the other’s verse. The music video was aired on BET and even featured a cameo of Kel from Keenan and Kel.
KB:
People don't care, you keep Christ in your Christmas
If they cannot see that there's Christ in the Christian
You do the division, now give me some differences

In addition to sharing recipes and hacks on the Friday Tasting Menu, I figured why not also share snacks too?!
I love trying and finding new things, so if you have any recommendations for your go-to snacks or if you recently found one you enjoyed. Let me know!
For the very first snack, I recently discovered Bill Oakley (aka the Gordon Ramsey of Fast Food) and he shared a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup with…Potato Chips! Now at face value, this comes across like a weirdo combination but it works.
The classic Peanut Butter Cup flavor still shines but Potato Chips does two things:
Texture-Provides a super pleasant CRUNCH which classic cups didn’t necessarily lack/need but when you do have it, boom! It’s like an epiphany, you’ll feel like it makes it overall better.
Salt-Salt is what brings the flavor out of food. It’s the thing that makes people wonder how restaurants get that burger to taste so good. Want to test it out? Grab 2 slices of tomato. Season one of them with a pinch of salt and one without. You’ll find the difference quickly. Reese’s is already known for capturing that sweet and salty dance and doing it well.
Tl;dr-Reese’s Potato Chip Cups are essentially the same as the classic but provides the extra boost of texture, which makes the eating experience great but likely will not start a revolution to change the Original.
I’d highly recommend keeping your eyes peeled for this treat. It’s worth a try. Give it a go and let me know what you think!
💭a thought
Found this image on Instagram ironically. Can you relate?
Why is it, I wonder, that when we set ourselves to get something done we don’t just allow ourselves to be distracted it’s as if we want to be distracted.
This reminds me of a conversation I had with my older brother, Fenny, where he said something along the lines of, “Nothing that’s worth doing is easy.”
It can also be said then, nothing that’s worth doing will be exempt from being riddled with distractions. What defense mechanisms can we set up for ourselves now to protect our future selves?
🗯a quote
“Never say anything in writing that you wouldn’t comfortably say in conversation. If you’re not a person who says “indeed” or “moreover,” or who calls someone an individual (“he’s a fine individual”), please don’t write it.” —From On Writing Well
William Zinsser
I felt the loving sting of this one. As someone who recently started writing online, I’ve noticed my wordiness now more than ever. The greatest challenge of writing isn’t just getting an idea across. It’s doing so with the least words possible.
Being able to distill a concept down to a few sentences which would take other paragraphs to get across demonstrates good comprehension of the topic.
🍞a verse
These are the words of Jesus. The common perception of Christianity, tragically, is that God wants to take from us. In reality, God gave His only son Jesus Christ as a sacrifice to save us from our sins and His just judgment but also so that we could truly experience life as He intended it.
